This SHM-SACD was released in May 2015. The album was first issued in 1980.

Booklet advises : DSD flat transferred from UK original analogue master tapes. Edited in DSD by Manabu Matsumura at Universal Music Studios, Tokyo, in 2015.

An odd (in more ways than one!) choice by Virgin to issue this artist on SACD. Captain Beefheart Was very much a cult artist after all.

Sonically this was a clean sounding good quality mid-fi recording and the DSD transfer reflects that very well. Sound staging, instrument separation are very good, as is the tonal balance. Not too bright, not too dull. Just about right.

This disc is the best I have heard this album sound and it is unlikely that it will be bettered.
