Comment by Mark Werlin - July 14, 2017 (1 of 1)

It was my good fortune to come across this disc today at my local brick and mortar. I think Philippe Quint (or his management) must have read John Broggio's perceptive comments re the mismatch of soloist and orchestra on Bruch, Mendelssohn & Beethoven - Quint. No such imbalance on this recording; the Bochumer Symphoniker are ably conducted by Steven Sloane, who has no trouble following the soloist! Quint brings out the poetic Armenian folk character in the Khachaturian concerto, which has regained some currency in recent years after decades of neglect. It's an enthralling performance recorded in excellent sound.
