Comment by Athenaeus - February 5, 2019 (1 of 1)

I finished listening to this set yesterday. I'll just comment on the sonics of the SACD remastering as one can easily find reviews elsewhere of the artistic merits of these recordings. I already owned this set on RBCD and the sound always seemed pretty good to me. But I was quite surprised when I received the SACD version and started comparing it with my RBCD set. I realized there was a thin veil over the sound of the RBCD version that isn't there on the SACD version; the musicians sound closer and more present on the SACD version. Though the sound of the piano is improved by the SACD remastering it's with the violin that I noticed a greater change. On the SACD version the different sonic strands that make up the violin's tone are suddenly a lot clearer and the RBCD is left sounding a bit flat in comparison.
