It was a great joy to see this album to appear, real classic and very well made, presumably the first to be released (an orchestral quadrophonic recording by DG from 1970s, newly remastered as such in 24-bit / 192 kHz to BD-A by Emil Berliner Studios). It’s hoped more like this will follow in the years to come.
If my assumption is correct, DG/Universal is mainly focusing on to release its analogue opera recordings, when appropriately possible, with an alternative surround sound options instead of its orchestral recordings. Of course there are exceptions, Beethoven: Symphonies 1-9 - Karajan (1975-77), Beethoven: Symphonies 1-9 - Bernstein and more recently Mozart: Piano Concertos 20, 21, 25 & 27 - Gulda, Abbado. According to the booklet notes by EBS’s Rainer Maillard for the present album, DG still has about 800 quadrophonic tapes in its storage, carefully achived. I’m interested to see what we will receive as the time passes by...

This BR Audio is one of the best sounding recordings I have ever heard during my 70 years on Earth. Period.

... and this is the recording to have. Boult & Dutoit are boring by comparison. Steinberg makes The Planets sing.
Also nice that this Blu-ray comes with a regular cd included, so you've got something for the car, or archive, or whatever.

I only have this on CD. Great performance, but the SQ is ok but nothing to call home about. So I thought about upgrading to the Special Edition, but according to the back cover, the Blu-ray has 4.0 sound only. On a stereo system, this would be a fold-down from the quadrophonic version. Thanks, but no thanks.
