Sound is below par for a 1969 recording, but what a performance! Highly recommended for the interpretation!

The Sei Soli of Bach are well represented now on SACD. We have the mono record by Johanna Martzy, stereo records by Szeryng and Erlih and Milstein and others, and multichannel records by Fischer and others. Yes, those are my five favorites, although a couple more are on the way and may yet invert the established order.
David Erlih has wonderful legato and allows each phrase to morph smoothly into the next. He doesn't dawdle, but he doesn't rush things, either. He was quite a violinist and I am glad that this recording exists as a testament to his artistry. I have not been able to dig up any more information about the recording beyond 1969 and Paris. I wish more information were available.
I was reluctant to get this, because I heard samples on some website and the sound quality was not very good. But I thought I ought to give the Global Culture Agency a chance to show what they had done with their transfer. I was very pleased to find that the SACD had completely overcome the problems I heard on the samples. I have ordered the Szigeti from the same label and hope to find similar results.

Joseph Ponessa, did you have the opportunity to listen to some other SACDs from Global Culture Agency? In your comment you said you would explore other titles from this record label.
