Finally a Shostakovich release in this series. It would be nice to have some more.

This recordings sounds fine. But these are still 16 Bit recordings, so what will the new mastering reveal? IMO totally unnecassary.

I have quite a few jazz sacd reissues of cd's, good sounding cd's too. I generally find that the sacd reduces the treble a bit and has a little bit smoother sound than the cd.
With the Esoteric reissues, I do not have any cd's of the sacd reissue. But I would tend to think that the assessment of the jazz reissues would also be for any Esoteric reissue.
And FWIW, the only sacd reissues that add new information are the ones where the original recording was more than 2 channel, some of the Living Stereo's and all of the Pentatone RQR and DGG reissues.
And as for "Necessary", well, no sacd is necessary. They are all optional purchases because one wants to buy them for whatever reason one has.
