Eagles

Desperado seams to speak to a universally human theme – the notion that at heart we are all drifters, always searching in life for ever-elusive goals such as stability, companionship, belonging, and satisfaction. Marrying cohesive western-themed arrangements to conceptual narrative devices, the Eagles' 1973 album also hits on a tried-and-true American principle: The West, and the freedom, promise, and danger it has represented throughout U.S. history. Ambitious yet accessible, deep but direct, Desperado remains a towering influence on country rock and a crucial piece of the Eagles' development and evolution.

How sad that the SACD does not include the excellent quadraphonic mix of this album. A wasted opportunity.

This is a MoFi product. Stereo only, as they always did. I personnally would not call a MoFi product a "wasted opportunity". They always perform an outstanding job at making music sound great and natural at the same time. Whether the mix is stero or multichannel is another matter.

Very much of a piece with the debut sonically, even though the SACD mastering on this one was done by Shawn R. Britton.

My long term memory of this album has been that it was a bit flat/congested sounding, compared to the debut. In part possibly because it is a denser recording.

The SACD really opens things up and there there is now more space around the various elements in the mix as a result.

As with the debut this is a well balanced sounding disc. Organic, smooth and with a well defined soundstage. Certainly the best digital incarnation of the album that I have heard.

I've had both of these in each successive format since they were first issued. I always thought all of the first three albums suffered from rather muddy productions, but was amazed at the life MoFi brought to the debut - by far the best for me in any format. I'm hoping for the same from "Desperado" - it's on my shelves but the moment to savour it without alienating other members of my household has not yet arrived!
As an aside, MoFi have now announced the rest of the series up to "Hotel California" on vinyl - no word I have seen re SACD, but it's surely hard to believe they won't?
