When I first listened to this disk I was a little underwhelmed. So much so that I dragged out the Japanese 2015 SHM-CD remaster (UICY-78603), which is also based on a flat transfer from the US analogue tape masters, a I remembered it sounding pretty good.

The broad differences are instructive. The Japanese remastered version has been remastered slightly louder and some degree NR seems to have been used to limit the analogue tape fog. It's certainly a good remastering effort, but upon going back to the Intervention SACD it becomes clear that in fact the Intervention remaster is the better sounding one.

It sounds very natural, analogue if you will, and more of the inner sonic detail comes through. It's still an old 1968 recording that is limited by the technology of the day, but in the Intervention incarnation it actually sounds very good.

The Intervention SACD also benefits from forgoing the addition of 'bonus' tracks - That will get my vote every time!

So certainly this is the version to get if you are fond of this album.
