I compared this to the 2007 Rhino US CD (R2 7479). I was never overly happy with that release and can only second Marc‘s impression: On the MoFi SACD the instruments sound ...
I bought this earlier this month in Hong Kong - it is labelled as a Chandos Classics release, no mention of Obsession. (P) date is 1966 (C) date is 2003, country of origin is ...
Glad to see BIS is still doing massive boxed sets. I hope BIS boxes up Spanyi's 59-volume CPE Bach integrale of keyboard solos and concertos - many years have passed since BIS ...
Rather worryingly still no links to any vendors on this site, and the only place I see it scheduled for release is in Japan (Tower, etc.). Does anyone know for sure that this ...
A surprisingly lovely album.
Originally released on CD in 2009 sporting an average DR of 9 and released on SACD in 2012 with an improved DR of 12.
Kevin Gray has done a very ...
Regarding Spanyi's CPE Bach concerto cycle, the final 20th volume was released in 2014. I own the complete cycle and enjoy listening to these lovely concertos. As far as I ...
Adrian. Thanks for the review. I was encouraged to download the album in DXD 24/352.8 surround from Native DSD. The booklet says the program was originally recorded in DXD. Be ...
I have not listened to this yet and I do generally like Mälkki. She may be a more "lyrical" conductor than some. I recently listened to her recording of Bartók's Concerto ...

It sounds really good. If I take the Analogue Productions SACD of this album, and turn up the treble some, and turn up the volume 1 notch, I essentially get this new SACD. I guess that shouldn't surprise given that Kevin Gray worked on both versions. While I love both versions equally, there is no real need to get this one if you have the Analogue Productions version. I recommend it wholeheartedly.

Sorry I have to disagree. I am a big fan of AP SACD releases, but I was never impressed with the sound on their version of this album. I actually have a DVD-A that was my favourite, until this. I find the sound cleaner and I love the bonus tracks. It’s great having everything on the one disc.

Worth all the buzz: has never sounded this good before. It's the freshly cleaned window impression again, incredibly enough. The mastering engineer Kevin Gray is really on a roll these days. What's behind that? I was not this impressed by his work before.
