SOURCED FROM THE ORIGINAL ANALOG MASTER TAPES: HYBRID SACD REVEALS "THOSE NICE BRIGHT COLORS"

Demonstrating a deep-seated flair for soul and R&B, Paul Simon recruited gospel backup singers and traveled to the Muscle Shoals Sound Studios to further refine the vibrant sounds he desired for There Goes Rhymin' Simon. His instincts proved correct. Many rightly consider the iconic singer-songwriter's third album a masterpiece – one that, per critic Robert Christgau, "suggests a new grace and flexibility for the mass-pop mode, and invests small subjects and emotions with an almost luminous wit and awareness."

Pretty lovely transfer this one.

Mastered by Rob LoVerde and he appears to have done so with commendable restraint. It was pretty well recorded in the first place and that shows through in the mastering. I was particularly taken with the bass now coming through with more presence.

And proof if were needed that MoFi is serious about not fixing master tape artifacts is the continued presence of that the brief tick sound at about 2:05 on track #4 "Something So Right" that remains part of the presentation as it has done since the old vinyl days.

MiFi's access to Paul Simon's albums looks to individually negotiated so here's hoping there will be more - One more step back to S/T would do me just fine.

On the disc it is written: Made in Austria. On the cover it is written: disc made in Germany. Where is the true?

......SACD disc is made in Austria as that's where the Sony DADC plant is located. Maybe the card sleeve is made in Germany.....or it's just plain wrong!
