Again, these new Impulse! remasters from 2023 top everything that's gone before. A notably clearer, more spacious, more truthful and vivid recording. Coltrane's tone is far more beautiful than ever (not that we care about the beauty aspect). Bravo.

This version was released in September 2023 and the jacket advises it is mastered by Ryan Smith of Sterling Sound.
The Obi. advises it as "Verve Label Group 2023 DSD".
It is a title in the 'Acoustic Sounds Series' that was commenced in 2020 as vinyl releases. Subsequently there are now also single layer SHM-SACD versions being released in Japan as part of an 'Acoustic Sounds SACD Series'. As such it is housed in the familiar gatefold card sleeve that Acoustic Sounds customarily uses.
As 'Longjohns' indicates above this is a lovely mastering. I was particularly struck by how Coltrane seemed to adopt Harmans controlled breathing style for his own playing. Almost magical.
The earliest SACD John Coltrane & Johnny Hartman#tracks was released back in 2004 and is mastered by Rudy Van Gelder. This disc contains stereo and mono versions of the album.
There is also John Coltrane and Johnny Hartman which was released in 2018 and is in stereo only. This uses a 2018 DSD transfer and was mastered by Kevin Reeves.
I have not heard these earlier mastering's, but this one will do me just fine!
