A release in the Blue Note SA-CD Hybrid Selection series of an intended 20 titles and slated to be released between 25 September 2024 and 18 December 2024. It is a Tower Records Japan exclusive series to commemorate the 85th anniversary of the founding of Blue Note Records. The first 13 releases in this series are new 2024 remasters based on DSD transfers ordered in 2017. The remaining 7 titles will be newly converted to DSD from US analog master tapes. CD layers are all also newly converted to PCM from the DSD masters.
Exactly who has done the 2024 remastering's from the (probably Robert Vosgein's) 2017 US master tape to DSD transfers is not known at this point.
Whatever the mastering provenance, it sounds very good overall. Though it is a bit brighter sounding than I would have preferred, it is certainly surprisingly detailed, full, dynamic and clean in its sonic presentation.
Not having heard either of the 2 earlier SACD issues of this title I can only say that it sounds very good in its own right. And will certainly be worth getting if you don't already own a SACD version
If you already have the 2017 Japanese SHM-SACD Art Blakey & The Jazz Messengers: Moanin' and have also stumped up for this latest version it would be illuminating to know what, if any, differences there are.
