The details pop out on this release and the sound is warm and very natural. If only every CD release was this good. As a fan of this album since my teens, I am very happy to ...
Can it get any better than this? Knappertsbusch's association with Parsifal was a long one and this is considered by many to be the very best of his recordings of this work. ...
No, it's stereo only, as you would expect from the date. A lovely transfer though and a clear step up from previous digital incarnations. Do a saved search on e-Bay and with a ...
This new SACD is based on a recent remastering by UK ClassicSound, carried out entirely in the DSD domain. The regular RBCDs already sound very good. I listened to a copy of ...
This is the third set of this kind from the Berliner. There is a Furtwängler and Karajan (1953 - 1969) set. I think they would not publish a set if the other two wouldn’t ...

This Single layer SHM-SACD version was released 2 May 2025 in Japan to coincide with Jarrett's 80th birthday.
There have been 2 previous SACD(H) releases (2017 & 2022) of this one both under the catalogue number PROZ-1097/1102. The first release was limited to 900 numbered copies. A second edition of 700 non-numbered copies was made available in December 2022. For these The redbook layer retains the original 1989 digital master. They both use the same 2017 DSD master for the SACD layer which was done by Christoph Stickel for ECM Records in Germany. Of note is that there was a digital remix done in 1989 and that remix forms the basis for the 2017 DSD mastering.
This SHM-SACD release also uses the 2017 DSD master done by Christoph Stickel.
It sounds very good. Better than the SACD Hybrid versions? I can't say, not having heard either of them.
It's a brilliant work and remains pretty stunning (timeless even) today, all those decades after it was recorded in 1976.
Spoil yourself and stump up for a copy.

I did spoil myself. Unnecessary to say that I own the normal RBCD box. I love the music, but the midrange piano register always sounded a bit clinking in my ear. I hope this gets better with the 2017 remix. I will report upon receipt of the box.
