‘Muti’s Tchaikovsky cycle with the Philharmonia is one of the most consistent ever, with the conductor’s high voltage tempered by expressive warmth and keen fantasy… This Muti box earns the warmest recommendation,’ wrote Gramophone of the complete symphonies when they first appeared.

Complementing them here are further works by Tchaikovsky, including the ‘Manfred’ Symphony and First Piano Concerto with Andrei Gavrilov as a breathtaking soloist.

Stereo recordings, 1975-1981

Discs 1-4 have (Symphonies 1-6, Romeo and Juliet, Piano Concerto) been newly remastered in HD 192kHz/24-bit from the original tapes by Studio Circé.

Presto's notes state that "Manfred Symphony remastered with AI upscaling remastering by Atsuo Fujita."

Has anybody heard this? I'm not convinced by AI remastering...

I think it's just a new marketing term, formerly known as ORT - overtone reconstruction technology. (The Manfred symphony was recorded in PCM 16/44.1, so it gets the "Esoteric-treatment", in other words: converting a PCM file into a DSD file with added audiophile stardust...)

Hello, I received my copy this morning and was surprised to discover the AI upscaling mention. It is kind of ironic because I had ordered the set specifically for the Manfred and had discussed a similar project with a friend I had in mind. I'll be sure to post my impressions in a few days.

Don_Angelo, I was a bit flippant in my previous comment. I have no concerns about the sound quality — not even of the PCM recordings. From what I’ve seen, the reactions to the Warner SACD reissues, all of which were remastered by the Circé studio, have been consistently very positive. I’m interested in this SACD reissue myself, but because of some other recent SACD purchases, I’ll have to wait a little longer. BTW: out of these new Warner SACD releases, a copy of Blomstedt's Nielsen cycle is on its way to me.
