Gustavo Dudamel (conductor)

Celebrating his final season as Music Director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, conductor Gustavo Dudamel and the LA Philharmonic release the first of two albums of works by Prokofiev. This first digital album features Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet, captured at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles.

It stems from a collaboration with L.A. Dance Project and its Artistic Director Benjamin Millepied. As Dudamel and his players performed Prokofiev’s famous ballet score live at Walt Disney Concert Hall, choreographer Millepied and his dancers presented selected scenes, sometimes on stage in the auditorium, sometimes projected live on screen as the story played out elsewhere in the building. The innovative production was a critical success, and Dudamel was praised for his “full-throttle, rhythmically vital interpretation” (The New Yorker).
