Review by John Broggio - April 12, 2007

After the first three excellent releases in this series, a relative disappointment was unsurprising but frustrating all the same.

This disc has the following cantatas, written to celebrate the New Year, Epiphany etc.:
Herr Gott, dich loben wir - BWV 16
Schau lieber Gott, wie meine Feind - BWV 153
Sie werden aus Saba alle kommen - BWV 65
Mein liebster Jesus ist verloren - BWV 154

There is nothing one can put one's finger on but there is a general lack of the inspirational feel that graced the earlier releases - a certain tiredness in the direction pervades the music. Added to this is some suspect intonation from the brass in the first cantata. The singing is as good as the earlier discs and offers many delights along the way.

The recording is of a good standard and comes from Miniemenkerk, Brussels.
