Handel’s Water and Fireworks Music – Again?
A new recording of George Frideric Handel’s Water Music and Fireworks Music – now that’s bait guaranteed to get a bite, but why lay it? For one very good reason: the interpretation of these classics by L’Arte dell’Arco under Federico Guglielmo makes them a special listening event enhanced even more when heard in Surround Sound. This baroque ensemble, benefiting from Guglielmo’s violin virtuosity and drawing on additional wind resources, is known to cpo listeners from its compelling performance of Vivaldi’s Four Seasons: »An extremely appealing experiment with a result inspiring admiration on this exemplarily edited cpo CD in marvelously realistic sound pictures. These concertos have rarely been rendered more grippingly, vividly, expressively, fantastically, and poetically« (klassik-heute. com 9 / 2004). You thus have every reason to look forward to this new Handel – another stroke of luck inspired by clear-sighted virtuosity!

I own both this one and the Savall/Les Concert Des Nations performance of the same works - and this one is IMO not nearly as good.
The Savall performance is better, and the multichannel layer of that SACD has much more presence than this one.
Get the Savall disc if you can, this one isn't as good a performance or recording, especially in multichannel.
