Max Reger: Violin Concerto, Aria for Violin Solo and Orchestra

Ulf Wallin
Muenchner Rundfunkorchester
Ulf Schirmer

Perfect Team: Wallin & Reger

Even though Max Reger’s great Violin Concerto can be found on a number of other CD recordings, we did not want to withhold from you the opportunity to hear the interpretation by our Swedish violinist Ulf Wallin – especially since he has celebrated such an immense success with his cpo recordings of Reger’s works for violin and piano. Wallin studied in Stockholm and Vienna and has been professor of violin at the Hanns Eisler College of Music in Berlin since 1996. On cpo he has performed solo and chamber music with equal devotion, and his many recordings have met with major recognition and attention in the international media. On the present CD his recording of Reger’s gigantically dimensioned symphonic concerto of almost an hour in length with the Munich Radio Orchestra under the conductor Ulf Schirmer is combined with the same composer’s »Aria« for Solo Violin and Small Orchestra op. 103a, a work recalling the famous »Air« from Johann Sebastian Bach’s third Orchestral Suite BWV 1068 with its quietly striding basses and melody played on the G string.
